Ha salido un libro sobre "La Codorniz" firmado con ilustre apellido: "La Codorniz de Enrique Herreros" por Enrique Herreros (hijo), Edaf, Madrid, 2005.
La Codorniz ha sido, sin duda, uno de los semanario de humor de más fama y repercusión del siglo anterior. Apareció el 8 de junio de 1941, con un formato de 26 X 35 cm., con 24 páginas impresas la mitad a dos colores, y al precio de venta de 50 céntimos.
Como propietario y director figuraba Miguel Mihura y en sus páginas continuaba el humor vanguardista ya ensayado tres años antes en La Ametralladora por su director y principales colaboradores (Tono, Neville, Herreros, Álvaro de Laiglesia) que también lo eran de la nueva publicación.
Los primeros tiempos fueron los mejores (1941-1944): su humorismo innovador, surrealista, absurdo y desconcertante provocó irritación y entusiasmo irreprimible por partes iguales. Otras firmas en sus páginas fueron Wenceslao Fernández Flórez, José López Rubio, Jacinto Miquelarena, Enrique Jardiel Poncela y Ramón Gómez de la Serna entre los escritores, y Galindo y Picó entre los dibujantes, mientras Conchita Montes creaba un pasatiempo inmortal: el Damero Maldito.
